The squirrels that live in our yard have no serious predators, and they're big and fat and fearless. They like to lie on the railings of our deck and stare into the windows. This drives the cats crazy, of course, and the squirrels just lie there. It's almost like they're taunting the cats!

In one of the baby books I've read, the author suggests that you start letting your baby drink water from regular cups as soon as possible. Carter has been really interested in drinking from my cup lately, so I've started giving him water in his own cup to drink. He caught on surprisingly quickly, and he's much more interested in the regular cup than he ever was in a sippy cup.

Of course, giving a baby an open cup of water can have really funny results:

I posted a cartoon by this guy once before, but this one seriously had me laughing so hard I was crying. If you have a cat, this will have you ROFLing. Even if you don't, OMG. Must see!

We took an HD camera with us on our trip to Botswana last year, which meant we got great video that was nearly impossible to share. Doug recently found some software to convert HD format to something we could upload to YouTube, and he's started a YT channel for those videos at AfricanVideo07. He's got 50 videos up now and probably 50 more to go.

Here's an example of the kind of footage we shot. You can hear me narrating, heh.

And this is probably the most dramatic so far: lions killing a buffalo.

Enjoy!

John Stewart rocks my world. Here he is on "abstinence only" programs:

I still can't believe that one congressman actually said it was "elitist" for experts who have done research in a field to think they know more than others. Seriously, WTF? o_0

In other news, I'm back into my size 16 jeans, which is awesome. It's been a couple of years since I've been able to fit into these. I've dropped two sizes since my pre-baby weight, all from breastfeeding. Woot!
I missed this when it aired, but OMG so funny! There's little I appreciate more than someone who can poke fun at themselves. :-)

In a math course I teach, I happened to mention that I knew someone who could turn his pants inside out without taking them off, and one student took it as a challenge to see if she could figure out how to do it. She not only did it, but made a cool video to document it. You can check it out here. :-D
When I was a kid, I remember watching films about what the future would be like, and most of them ended up being waaaay off. Flying cars, anyone? Robot servants? Going to the moon on vacation?

But THIS CLIP from a 1967 film about what things would be like in 1999 pretty much nails it. It's shocking how accurate it was, actually. Well, except for the gender roles stuff, I guess. :-P

Oh, and I have a sonogram picture from this afternoon's appointment that I need to scan and post. I'll put it up shortly.
We've spent a lot of time in Africa, but this beats any wildlife interaction we've ever seen.

Wow. Can you imagine watching that play out right in front of you? Amazing!
This is quite possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen. And watch the whole thing, because the ending is adorable!
