(no subject)

If you say "yes" to more than 40 of these, you're apparently spoiled.

Do you have:
(X) your own cell phone
(X) a television in your bedroom
(X) an iPod
(X) a photo printer
(X) your own phone line (In my own house? Who doesn't?)
(X) TiVo or a generic digital video recorder
(X) high-speed internet access (i.e., not dialup)
( ) a surround sound system in bedroom
(X) DVD player in bedroom
(X) at least a hundred DVDs (Oh, waaay more than 100!)
(X) a childfree bathroom (I don't have kids, though if I ever do they will have their own bathroom.)
(X) your own in-house office
(x) a pool
( ) a guest house
(X) a game room (Uh... does the home theater count?)
(X) a queen-size bed or larger (I don't think the two of us could fit in a regular double bed!)
(X) a stocked bar
(X) a working dishwasher
(X) an icemaker (Came with the fridge.)
(X) a working washer and dryer
(X) more than 20 pairs of shoes (Oh, please. I'm a girl!)
( ) at least ten things from a designer store
(X) expensive sunglasses (But that's because they were prescription.)
(X) framed original art (not lithographs or prints)
(X) Egyptian cotton sheets or towels (Mmm, 400 thread count, baby!)
(X) a multi-speed bike (That I haven't ridden in years...)
(X) a gym membership
( ) large exercise equipment at home
( ) your own set of golf clubs
( ) a pool table
( ) a tennis court
(X) local access to a lake, large pond, or the sea (Well, there's a lake nearby, and the ocean isn't that far away, but in a real-estate sense, we don't have access.)
( ) your own pair of skis
( ) enough camping gear for a weekend trip in an isolated area
( ) a boat
( ) a jet ski
(X) a neighborhood committee membership (I'm assuming this would include a HOA?)
( ) a beach house or a vacation house/cabin
( ) wealthy family members
(X) two or more family cars (For two people in the suburbs -- not so unusual.)
(X) a walk-in closet or pantry (Er, both.)
(X) a yard (Unless you live in a city, most people do.)
( ) a hammock
( ) a personal trainer
(X) good credit (And proud of it!)
( ) expensive jewelry
( ) a designer bag that required being on a waiting list to get
( ) at least $100 cash in your possession right now
(X) more than two credit cards bearing your name (not counting gas cards or debit cards)
(X) a stock portfolio
(X) a passport
( ) a horse (I used to, when I was little.)
( ) a trust fund (either for you or created by you)
(X) private medical insurance (I assume this means the one that came with my job.)
(X) a college degree, and no outstanding student loans

Do you:
(X) shop for non-needed items for yourself (like clothes, jewelry, electronics) at least once a week (Online, but yeah.)
(X) do your regular grocery shopping at high-end or specialty stores (Do HEB Central Market and Whole Foods count?)
(X) pay someone else to clean your house, do dishes, or launder your clothes (not counting dry-cleaning) (Clean house, yes. But not the other stuff.)
(X) go on weekend mini-vacations
( ) send dinners back with every flaw
(X) wear perfume or cologne (not body spray)
(X) regularly get your hair styled or nails done in a salon (Not nails, but hair every six months. Is that "regular"?)
( ) have a job but don't need the money OR
( ) stay at home with little financial sacrifice
( ) pay someone else to cook your meals
( ) pay someone else to watch your children or walk your dogs (I have neither at the moment, but I'm sure my kids will be in day care at least some of the time.)
( ) regularly pay someone else to drive you / taxis
( ) expect a gift after you fight with your partner

Are you:
( ) an only child
( ) married/partnered to a wealthy person (I don't like this one. We were poor when we first started out, so it's not like I married a rich guy.)
( ) baffled/surprised when you don't get your way

Have you:
(X) been on a cruise
(X) traveled out of the country
(X) met a celebrity
(X) been to the Caribbean
(X) been to Europe
(X) been to Hawaii
(X) been to New York
( ) eaten at the space needle in Seattle
(X) been to the Mall of America
(X) been on the Eiffel tower in Paris
(X) been on the Statue of Liberty in New York
(X) moved more than three times because you wanted to
( ) dined with local political figures
(X) been to both the Atlantic coast and the Pacific coast

Did you:
(X) go to another country for your honeymoon
(X) hire a professional photographer for your wedding or party
(X) take riding or swimming lessons as a child (Both.)
( ) attend private school
(X) have a Sweet 16 birthday party thrown for you

That's 57, and if I had kids, more of them would have been checked. Am I spoiled? There are some things on this list that I think are actually really common, that many people have out of necessity (two cars, day care) or that even poor people have in some parts of the country (a yard). It seems that this is equating "comfortable" with "spoiled", and I'm not sure if I agree with that.

Heh, you thought of things that I didn't (icemaker = fridge, neighborhood committee membership = HOA). I'm sure I'd score higher than that, interpreting many of these things the way you did! (And I gave myself credit for "expensive jewelry" because my wedding ring is a four-figure designer platinum-and-18k thing -- even though that's literally all the jewelry I own.)

The Space Needle, btw, is a wonderful place to eat dinner, if you don't mind heights! The view cannot be beat, but you do want to go in summer when it's not too cloudy to see for miles. :)

I only got 38,if I counted right, but it's a stupid list. "Good credit" is the one that killed me... yeah, paying your bills on time is a sign of being spoiled. Really. Sheesh.

I had 21, and you're right - many of those things aren't luxuries. Why would you be spoiled to have a washer and dryer?

This is what happens when 13 year-olds make up surveys, quizzes, etc. *g*
