The squirrels that live in our yard have no serious predators, and they're big and fat and fearless. They like to lie on the railings of our deck and stare into the windows. This drives the cats crazy, of course, and the squirrels just lie there. It's almost like they're taunting the cats!

In one of the baby books I've read, the author suggests that you start letting your baby drink water from regular cups as soon as possible. Carter has been really interested in drinking from my cup lately, so I've started giving him water in his own cup to drink. He caught on surprisingly quickly, and he's much more interested in the regular cup than he ever was in a sippy cup.

Of course, giving a baby an open cup of water can have really funny results:

I still can't believe that one congressman actually said it was "elitist" for experts who have done research in a field to think they know more than others. Seriously, WTF? o_0

In other news, I'm back into my size 16 jeans, which is awesome. It's been a couple of years since I've been able to fit into these. I've dropped two sizes since my pre-baby weight, all from breastfeeding. Woot!

This is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. Seriously, I was laughing so hard I had a coughing fit, and then I saw stars. I actually had to pause in my reading to get a drink of water and catch my breath. If you remember the 70s, you really need to check this out! A colleague and I are working this week towards putting in an NSF proposal titled "Developing Interdisciplinary Content Knowledge through Lesson Study". It will be really cool because we're pairing up inservice and preservice teachers and college math and science faculty to develop innovative lessons and study how to teach them. Someone who was reviewing the proposal asked us if we had a catchy acronym for our project, so I stared at the title and said, "Well, we could call it D-I-C-K-Le-S..."

And everyone burst out laughing.

So our project is now unofficially called the "Dickless Project". Which is somewhat fitting, as there are no men involved. But I doubt NSF will find our title amusing, so we're going to insert Math/Science in there somewhere to break it up.
