We're in New York this weekend, and having a lot of fun. It's our first time coming here since Carter was born, though we made it easy on ourselves by bringing Michelle (Carter's nanny) along. She's taken him for walks while we go to see a few Broadway shows, and so we've had a little more grown-up time than we would have otherwise!

I'll post more about our trip later, but for now, check out this article on Playbill.com. The Doug and Jenn mentioned in the beginning of the article? Is us. :-D
We spent last weekend in Seattle, which was really fun. The weather there was gorgeous, cool (for us, anyway) and pleasant. We stayed at the Westin downtown, which is just a short walk from the waterfront and the park where the Space Needle is. Our main reason for going was that Mel Brooks's new Broadway musical Young Frankenstein (yes, based on the movie) was finishing up its pre-Broadway run in Seattle that weekend. We figured it would be fun to see it before it hit Broadway, so we decided to take our annual Labor Day mini-vacation there.

The weekend, thoughts about the musical )

Tonys!!

We had such a fantastic time at the Tony Awards Sunday night! The entire weekend was fantastic, actually, just a wonderful time to spend with Doug.

More here )
I bought a dress for the Tonys! I had kind of been dreading it because I really hate shopping for clothes, but I found something pretty quickly, and I really love it.

Pictures under the cut, as requested. )

My wonderful husband has done something to cheer me up, and I'm utterly floored.

WE HAVE TICKETS TO GO TO THE TONYS.

Yes, those Tonys. June 11. We're sitting in the first mezzanine. Holy shit.

I have to buy a dress. He has to get his tux altered, since he hasn't worn it in a couple of years. Oh my god. We're going to the Tonys!! The theatre geek in me is FLIPPING OUT!!!!

Company!

Apr. 12th, 2006 01:20 pm
Doug and I are major Sondheim geeks, so about a week and a half ago we trekked up to Cincinnati from Austin to see the Playhouse in the Park's production of Company. It was directed by John Doyle of Sweeney Todd fame, which was one of the main reasons we were excited to see it. We'd stumbled upon his version of Sweeney in a tiny off-West End theatre a couple of years ago, and saw it in NYC in previews last fall, and both of us LOVED it. We had high hopes for Company, another show we really adore.

I'll cut the rest. :-) )

OMG This? So very cool. *is happy*

We were in Cincinati last weekend and saw the production of Company directed by the same man who directed the amazing version of Sweeney Todd currently on Broadway. The actors and orchestra are one and the same, which really has an amazing theatrical effect. Company wasn't nearly as polished as Sweeney (and we saw it in the West End and on Broadway), but it's such an amazing show! We've been singing the songs ever since.

Bobby... Bobby baby...
