More info on those octuplets. Some interesting stuff in that article. It sounds like the woman has some major mental health issues. 0_o

But what I want to know is how she paid for it. I mean seriously, it cost us more than $15K to have just the one!

She now has 14 children, and she's single? How on earth is she going to cope? I can't even imagine dealing with that many with a partner.

It may have been covered by insurance? If it was a medical condition that prevented her from having kids, then maybe it's covered.

I know here if you are unable to have children because of "plugged fallopian tubes" then it's covered by OHIP. But obviously, very different health systems.

I can't imagine taking care of that many kids on my own...I'm also trying to figure out how many eggs were frozen to start with, or if she happened to get lucky (in that she didn't have to have multiple...treatments [I don't know what to call them...] and multiple eggs implant).

I dunno, I'm sort of torn on the whole thing - I think that everyone should have the right to have kids, and I mean, she has the right to have those kids but on the other, I just...kind of wonder if it was such a good idea for her to have more, if that makes sense. Not because I think she's a bad parent or anything, but just physically, emotionally, financially I think it would be difficult. I hope everything works out for her.

Sounds like from the article she had them paid for ... probably through a study. So if she didn't put back 8 and some split then she would have identical twins within the eight, right? Embryos don't typically split so I'm not buying it really and even if they did it would have nothing to be with her ovaries being hyperstimulated like the article states. There is so much inaccurate info out there about IVF and I hate how much negative attention this story brings to it.

My insurance covered up to three IVFs and/or six IUIs. I know that's unusual but it happens. My husband's insurance covers all infertility stuff too (luckily, since now we're both on his).

That article appeared in our paper today, too. And I'm with you: how in the hell is she going to pay for that? And where is CPS? Neglect is a form of child abuse. How can this woman possibly provide for all those kids?

There is a similar phenomenon of people who adopt tons of kids, and yes, I'm looking at you, Angelina Jolie! I'm sure the phenomenon has been studied by psychologists. At least, I hope so. It seems to me that there's a difference between people having large families, and people who seem to be focused on acquiring more kids, you know? I mean, Brangie just had their twins, and immediately they started talking about birthing and adopting even more? What about focusing on bonding with the new kids you just got?

I'm not sure how you'd enforce that, though.
