IVF CD 12

I had blood drawn again this morning and had another sonogram. Follicle sizes that were measured on the right: 21, 17, 17, 15, 14, 13, 10; and left: 20, 14, 13, 12, 12, 12. The doctor wanted to see how my estradiol came out before deciding if we should stimulate one more day or go ahead and do HCG tonight.

The office just called and said to do the HCG tonight at 8:15, which means the egg retrieval will be on Saturday morning! My surgery is scheduled for 8:00, and I think it should be pretty quick. They said I'd probably be discharged by 10:00. I'm actually pretty excited to see how this goes. I don't know how many oocytes they'll get, but I hope it's a decent number.

Doug has to give me a shot for the first time tonight, poor thing. He's nervous, but I'm sure it will go fine. Onwards!

Good luck! I will be thinking about you on Sat. Take it easy after your ER. I was in more discomfort then I thought I would be in after mine.

I have a nice big bottle of Darvocet, and the IVF nurse told me not to be shy about taking them. ;-)

If you don't mind my asking, where were you sore the most? I'm imagining the ovaries would be really tender afterwards, but maybe that needle-in-the-vagina thing is not such a walk in the park either.

My ovaries were very tender and in general the entire abdominal area. I also developed OHSS pretty quickly so was in a lot of pain from that. They pulled out 31 eggs, 17 of which were mature - (after telling me there were 8-10 mature follies on each side) so I think I was sore from the pulling and tugging to get those eggs out that were stuffed in there.
I think you'll do great. Sounds like they've given you a good dose of meds. :) I'll be thinking of you and waiting for your update when you get back on your feet!

Wow, you ended up with 17 mature eggs? I think that's what I'm most interested in: finding out how many eggs they'll get.
