Weekend update

I dropped Doug off at the airport this morning. He's on his way to China, and he'll be there all week. We've sent a solid month together, which is rare and awesome, and I miss him already. I'm glad he'll be home his weekend, but it will still be very quiet around here without him.
We watched lots of movies this weekend, for some reason. I guess we just felt like it. We went to see Ratatouille on Friday night, which was just amazing! It was sweet and funny, and it got the food parts exactly right. Doug said afterwards that he thought it was one of the best movies he's seen in a long time. The animation was amazing, particularly the hair on the rats. It looked so realistic!
The rest of the weekend, we watched movies at home. We watched Venus (with Peter O'Toole), which was better then I expected. The story had really grabbed me by the end. His character seems a bit creepy and desperate at the beginning, but something changes halfway through and the roles of the characters are reversed somehow. Great writing.
We also watched the fabulous An Inconvenient Truth, which is simultaneously terrifying and uplifting. The data presented are so stunning, and it's heartbreaking to think we've known this was coming since the 1960s, but no politicians have wanted to deal with it -- and worse that others have downright denied its validity. I'm always surprised when people in positions of power seem not to understand some of the basic premises of science. Or worse, that they really do understand, but are so selfish they choose to ignore it. But I suppose when the world's glaciers are disappearing and the amounts of carbon in the atmosphere are ten times higher than they've been in 600,000 years (and increasing all the time), it starts to trump things like selfish politicians. I hope.
We spent most of Sunday re-watching the four Harry Potter films, which was a lot of fun. The fifth one comes out this week, yay! I'll be seeing it at midnight Tuesday night, which will be awesome.
We went to the Sunset Valley Farmer's Market on Saturday morning, and I was underwhelmed. On their website they say that they were voted one of the top five farmer's markets in the country, but I find it hard to believe. There are three farmer's markets in Austin, and I don't think this one is any better than the one downtown. Still, we got some stuff to cook over the weekend, which was nice.
Brief embryo update: I have nothing, really. Except that they (if they're still there) were a week old on Saturday. They should be in the process of implanting now (see this site for an explanation). The progesterone shots are going fine, and starting tonight I'll be going to a clinic to get them. Saturday (testing day) seems a long way off!
